Will the FreedomFi 5G Gateway operate in rural environments?

The FreedomFi 5G Gateway will work in any area of the US but Helium rewards and earnings may vary depending on your area's traffic.

What details does support need to know to transfer my reservation to another person?

You will need to provide us with your email address, reservation ID along with the last 4 digits of the card from which payment was originally made so we can track & identify the spot. Additionally you need to provide the email, phone, first name, and last name of the new owner.

Can the FreedomFi 5G Gateway be used with a POE (power-over-ethernet) setup for a cleaner installation?

If you’d like to try a POE setup with an aftermarket poe splitter and poe injector, please pay special attention to the power requirements below and do this at your own risk. Incorrect power specifications can damage the gateway. (as others have learned by using the wrong setup)

Gateway Power Requirements: 12v in, 30W peak consumption

Due to the nature of quality control and variation in unverified third party power devices, our warranty will not apply and such setups would be at your own risk. We are looking into the possibility of offering an official accessory package that would include certified POE adapters, no ETA yet.

Can I install/run other software on the FreedomFi 5G Gateway?

Attempts to modify, tamper with, or replace any software on the FreedomFi 5G Gateway voids the warranty. FreedomFi will not be able to resolve any problems arising from such modifications.

Does a Hotspot take a lot of data to run?

The data usage of the FreedomFi 5G Gateway can vary depending on many factors; however, the average estimated usage for a hotspot is between 30GB-50GB per month. As the light hotspots update rolls out and gets optimized, there should be a significant decrease in the amount of data required.

How will I make money by hosting a Helium-compatible FreedomFi 5G Gateway?

FreedomFi 5G Gateway hosts will provide wireless network coverage for IoT devices and cellular devices (like cell phones) operating in the CBRS spectrum band In return for providing this coverage and passing data through the device, operators are rewarded with the new MOBILE variant of the HNT cryptocurrency. HNT cryptocurrency is freely exchangeable to other cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin etc.) or fiat currencies at many popular cryptocurrency exchanges.

Please refer to public data sources for HNT price and places to trade.

Does FreedomFi 5G Gateway also mine HNT for LoRa proof of coverage like RAK, Nebra and Bobcat?

Yes. FreedomFi 5G Gateways will come with a pre-integrated LoRa module and, by default, will act as a Helium hotspot, mining rewards for proof of coverage and data on the LoRa network. However, in addition to LoRa HNT rewards, FreedomFi 5G Gateway owners will also be able to also earn rewards for offloading data from mobile networks of the Helium network roaming partners offering rewards to the hosts above and beyond the traditional Helium Hotspots. How much more money will this earn than just a regular Helium Hotspot?

Unfortunately, we cannot give you an exact number. Variables such as the number of roaming partners onboarded location of your FreedomFi CBRS Indoor Small Cell and community approval (or otherwise) of HIP 37 all influence the answer.

Since we are still in the early stages of onboarding cellular roaming partners and have not yet approved or implemented HIP 37, you won’t earn a lot more than a regular Helium hotspot on day one. However, if all goes well, we expect that over the next 24 months the earning potential of Helium 5G node operators will far exceed those of LoRa-only hotspot operators.

If I wanted to connect my own phone or laptop to it, how can I do it?

At the present, to use the cellular coverage provided by your Powered by FreedomFi CBRS small cell, you can purchase FreedomFi beta SIM cards. These SIM cards provide unlimited data on the Helium 5G network during the beta period as the network is built out. FreedomFi SIM card bundles are available for purchase here

Will FreedomFi Gateway swallow up all of my Internet connection, such that I won’t be able to watch Netflix?

No. While FreedomFi CBRS Small Cells have a maximum downlink throughput of 220Mbps, most cellular radios spend the majority of their time carrying 30% of their peak throughput or less. If you have a decent Internet connection it will not swallow all of it. You will also have the ability to set the ceiling data throughput that you dedicate to the data offload.

Will I earn less rewards from my existing Helium miner if I put FreedomFi Gateway next to it?

Yes. HIP 17 rules apply to FreedomFi Gateways the same way they do to any other Helium Hotspot. If you place multiple hotspots within 300 meters (about 1000 feet) of each other, it will negatively affect your mining rewards.
